Camera Mittens!!!

Most Awesome Photographer Mittens Ever

Knit with a slit to allow you to pop out those pointy fingers for ease of camera use.

This little kitty has definitely found her mittens! How cool are these? Warm and vintagey-pretty. I fell in love with the Japanese yarn cause of it’s uniqueness, but the pattern is the thing! So freakin’ brilliant! Found the pattern on Ravelry (yup, I’m there too. Friend me!) and just had to make them. Actually, have made two pair now. *big grin*

I hate to admit that I’ve already had to use them. Last weekend on the Scott Kelby Photowalk, they got a good breaking in. It was cccccccold! I think 3C? Now, naturally, here in Simcoe County (right jammed between the nicety-nice milder GTA and usually beautifully freezing Muskoka) we have gorgeous 25C weather. Go figure.

… and we’re off!!!

Hey y’all. Feels like it’s been forevah! Honestly, though, I think it’s just the gettin’ back to routine with the kids in school and me trying to balance out the day.

Soon, I’ll have some new eye candy for the blog. Working on edits for a couple of weddings and other fun-type stuff. Keep on watchin’!

Finding Inspiration

You know, for me, inspiration can come from anywhere. I swear, for the longest time it came from IKEA (which we all know is Swedish for good ;) ).  Now, it can come from anything – another image, something someone has said, a song. I just have to remember to be open mindfully and to keep these peepers wide too.

Just the other day, I was out wandering, camera in hand. I had had a fight with my youngest, who didn’t want to model for the creepy clown thing I’ve been dying to do for a while now. Needless to say, Autism wins. Clown on the backburner smoldering away. So naturally? Walkabout. I literally stumbled upon hidden treasure.

Anyone who knows me, knows I have a penchant for crawling around musty old places. Give me my camera, some old jeans and a “haunted” house and I’m a happy bunny. Normally, these places speak their messages silently, but here, there was a rainbow of graffiti art. It shocked, amazed and excited me.

“As long as it’s good and full of passion.” That’s what greeted me as I warily stepped inside. I was struck by this. Call them omens, signs, or simply messages, this is exactly what I needed to hear… or see… or yeah you know what I mean. Immediately it rang true with a song lyric that I use as a mantra almost, “Do what you like and do it honestly.”. This is a universal secret that needs to be spoken more. Follow your dreams and heart and you’ll find happiness. You’ll find success. It may not always be tied to the almighty dollar, but it’s tied to your soul.

Also been doin’ some editing and have some shoots and events lined up very soon. Keep checking back and in the meantime, enjoy this little tidbit.

Teaching Dani

So way, way, waaaaaaay back when, my girlfriend Dani asked if I taught people how to use DSLR’s off of program mode. It took us awhile to get our busy schedules together, but we did.

We met the evening of August 26 and sat down at Centennial Park to talk about photography basics and watch the world go by for a wee while.

Absently looking down, I found this message graffiti. Thank you, Natalie, without a face, for this simple reminder. Something, I think, we all need to take care to remember. Life is fleeting, enjoy it for every moment, being mindful of the little things.

Amanda & Ken

On August 6th, I had the honour and pleasure of working with Amanda Archyes, I know, I know. I’m playing catch up now, alrighty?

The day started off pouring rain, but that soon gave way to some lovely sun and killer humidity. Somewhere between the sweltering heat and her photographers getting a bit of heat stroke, our amazing bride, Amanda (as well), shone and kept at it. She insisted, “Forget everything else. It’s all gonna be gone in a few years. The photos are what I care about. It’s what’s important. LET’S DO THIS THING!”

Amanda and her new husband, Ken, where such an amazingly fun couple to work with! I wish them all the happiness. I also can’t wait to work with photographer Amanda again soon!

Children

Good golly, Miss Molly! What the heck is it with kids?

Seriously though, here in Central Ontario we’re going through a bit of an unseasonable cold “snap”. When I say “snap”, I really mean “HOLY *bleep*, WHAT THE *bleepitybleepbleepbleeeeeeep* HAPPENED?” Mother Nature is most certainly being a bit nippily currently…. Must be PMS. That being said, my two loverly little angels asked if the snow would be falling soon and if they could make a snowfort.

Hello? WHAT?!

All summer, I’ve been bugging them to get out. “Play outside, will ya? You’ve got a playground in the backyard. It’s healthy and good and all that jazz.” Or me endlessly pleading to go to the zoo or for hikes or what have you. Nope. Each query was met with a sullen stare and “Mummy. I want to play LEGO.”

Sigh.

Yet my most dreaded thing, snowy frozen winter, and they want to invite it early? The mere thought of snow has me huddled under umpteen blankies and reaching for the hot water bottle. Little freaks (and I do say that lovingly)…. Ha! Good on them. They’re far better Canucks than I.

Anyway, they did manage to get out now and again. In honour of that and the fact that I’m sitting here chattering my teeth, here are a few waterpark pics from a far more glorious day.

NO Rocking the Bucket

And man oh man, was that rule NOT ever broken this summer! Since June, I’ve been running like a maniac (hehehe – no comments, please). The boys have most certainly kept my hands full. We played, we fought, we traveled. o_O It JUST DIDN’T STOP!

But now, sweet now? They’re back at school!!! Hey, I miss the little demons, um, angels, terribly!

Yeah right. ;p

Ready to rock, my peeps?! I sure as heck am! This is a good place to start too. Recently, with my friend and partner, photographer Jason Ferber, we took two willing (although perhaps unknowing of what they were getting into), beautiful models out in the field.  Sarah and Chantelle had no idea when I proposed a Boho-Chic style shoot they’d be climbing into a rusted-out-spider-infested-abandoned ferris wheel. XD

You had better believe. This is just the start of me, rocking the bucket.
